Who doesn’t love hanging out with their best friend, right? While you might have some favourite routines that you both love and treasure, sometimes trying out new activities can be a wonderful thing. Here are six great ways to spend a summer day (or night) with your best friend:
TAKE YOUR DOG OUT TO DINNER
Hey, your dog has to eat, right? Get out of the kitchen and take a stroll with your BFF (best furry friend) to the nearest dog-welcoming spot with an outdoor seating. If your dog has suspect table manners (and some of our friends do), grab some take-out and head to the park instead.
TAKE YOUR DOG OUT TO A MOVIE
While your backyard and laptop (or projector and sheet) can serve as the perfect relaxing environment to watch a movie, you can also head out to the park this summer with your dog. Each summer, the Auckland city council screens a line-up of recent releases (as well as amazing classics) in parks all around town. Check out the films and locations here. Each screening begins around sunset so make sure to arrive early to secure your spot in some of Auckland's most stunning parks. Have a bite to eat and catch the pre-movie entertainment too!
FROZEN TREATS
The fastest way to a dog’s heart? Through the stomach, of course! (again, this actually holds true for most people) We all know most dogs enjoy treat-stuffed Kongs, so why not try a simple summer twist? Stuff the Kong (or any food-stuffable dog toy) with whatever your dog loves and then pop it in the freezer for a cool, frozen treat!
HIT THE BEACH
Jump on the ol’ laptop and have a quick search for dog-friendly beaches near you. Make sure to check out the opening and closing times too. More importantly, once you find a spot, make sure to watch the heat of the sand! You don’t want to your pup’s burning their paws!
START A WALKING GROUP
Set a date, put a call out (either with old friends or potential new ones) and get ready to have some fun while you and your dog get some great low impact exercise. You can learn about new pup-friendly spots, and swap training advice and vet recommendations.
HOST A BBQ PARTY
Time outside with all your best friends and the promise of delicious cooked food, including marinated meat? Doggie heaven, plain and simple.
